Dalsland Canoe Marathon +

The Canoe Marathon +, held in western Sweden each year, may call itself a marathon, but beware the 'Plus' in its name… In fact it is some 55 kilometres long, which is a very long way in a kayak. The race takes place in early August each year in the remote and extremely beautiful surroundings of the lakes of Dalsland, narrow, navy-blue ribbons of water that pass through the rich green of the pine forests where red roofed houses hide. It is an extremely friendly event, with supporters at the lakeside.

James Henderson of A Life of Adventure paddled the Dalsland Canoe Marathon + and wrote about it for the Financial Times’ magazine How to Spend it. You can read his report of the Canoe Marathon here. The event website is at kanotmaraton.se
